Which Driver Profession Suits You Best?
Are you looking for a job as a driver? There are several opportunities offered in the field of transportation. For the different types of drivers, there are different rules that you must follow as a road user. We list what you need to think about if you are considering one of these jobs.
Truck driver
As a truck driver you drive road vehicles of 3.5 tons or heavier. For example, you drive a tractor with trailer, tanker or dump truck. You bring goods from point A to B and take care of all the related tasks: loading and unloading, maintenance and goods control.
As a truck driver you work for a transport company, or you take care of the distribution of large chains and companies. Your trips are sometimes there and back, sometimes with several destinations in a row. Another option? You export goods abroad: then you are on the road for a longer period of time.
Some of your duties:

Executive driver
As an executive chauffeur you are always ready to take an executive from A to B. As an executive chauffeur, you are on the road for a large part of the day. You can see the road network as your company and the car is your flexible workplace. You are at the disposal of your customer and respond to his or her wishes. The customer’s wishes determine your working hours and the size of your working area. Getting the customer to their destination on time is a priority. The fact that you cannot influence the traffic situation makes your work quite a challenge. It is important that you remain professional in this regard and adhere to confidentiality obligations.
Some of your duties:
➡️ Safe and comfortable transport of your customer
➡️ Keeping your work area (in this case the means of transport) clean
➡️ Remaining calm in difficult situations
Bus driver
As a bus driver, you drive a bus intended for passenger transportation, such as a scheduled bus or a coach. You are responsible for transporting passengers adequately, safely and comfortably. On a coach, you are also (partially) responsible for entertaining passengers. In addition to driving and maintaining a large vehicle, dealing with different people is an important part of the job as a bus driver. On scheduled services, for example, he must check or sell tickets.
Some of your duties:
➡️ Driving the bus and stopping at appropriate locations or stops
➡️ Informing passengers of travel time, stops, and destination, among other things
➡️ Checking passengers for a valid ticket (if applicable)
➡️ Cleaning up and keeping the bus clean
➡️ Taking care of minor maintenance to the bus
➡️ Acting according to the regulations in case of emergencies or accidents
➡️ Supervising the orderly conduct of passengers (and addressing offenders if necessary)
Disability transport
As a driver of disabled transportation, you are required to transport the customer between places known in advance and within a stipulated time frame. In doing so, it is important to maintain a calm, safe and customer-friendly driving style. You ensure that the customer feels at ease and valued. As a driver, you open up to the customer, offer a listening ear and can initiate or maintain a conversation. In other words, the driver is respectful towards the customer, but maintains the necessary assertiveness and discretion.
